Day 1: Workshops Begin!

Let it begin!

I arrived at the Arsenal, where the main studios are, early than needed. But I wanted to be prepared, catch my breath, and soak in the excitement.

There are 10 studios here, and I don't just mean 'studios', I mean huge arsenals where they built some of the sets of StarWars, halls that do deep past the horizon, where the dancing floor can't even cover the whole space because, I mean, who needs that much space??

Additionally, the space has a real 'summer camp' feeling to it. There is an outdoor cafe selling everything from coffees to warm meals for lunch. There are tables and benches and lounge chairs for you do sit, rest, socialize. Here we share everything from what we're doing in the workshops to what's in our lunch boxes.

And when you're done with your workshops, you can soak up the sun or take a dip in the knee-deep pool!

Camp Impulstanz....

And then of course there are the workshops:

This week I start the day with Writing Dance from Johnathon Burrows. My second workshop is Becoming Animal with Burno Caverna. And these workshops couldn't be anymore different!

More on these workshops after day Two... The information is still sinking in and flowing through

Days 0 Continued: Weekend enjoying Vienna

The last days felt like a little vacation. Benjamin and I explored some of the city, stuck our feet in the cool water, walked through the parks, and ate a huge Weiner Schnitzel!

Day 0: Staying Awake

Bags are packed.

And the clock is ticking.

My flight leaves tomorrow at 6:50am, and I've decided to stay the night awake till the train ride at 4:06. I'm too excited to sleep anyway.

The last two weeks since school has ended have been severely lacking in dancing, so I'm looking forward to gathering again with moving bodies and exploring motion together.
I've said goodbye to my classmates as we embark on our own adventures for the 4th year, off to companies, workshops, freelancing, and trying to make sense of this professional dance world

a lovely shot from our last performance together

Saying goodbye turned into a one & a half week endeavor of tears, appreciation and bittersweet last words. In three years we got to know each other in intimate ways. I mean.. we spend everyday all day working in a physical and emotional way!

Well, to each & every one of you dancers, let me tell you how happy I was to have had such a great experience! what a ride...

Next stop: Vienna
